Graduate - Criteria & Eligibility

ELIGIBILITY

All applicants must be a Bahamian citizen.

All applicants must be studying outside of The Bahamas.

All applicants must have at least one academic year remaining, which is the equivalent of two full semesters.

Minimum GPA requirements:
Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or
Cumulative graduate GPA of 3.5 if currently enrolled in graduate studies.

Career goal stipulations:
Students are not eligible if his/her career plan is medicine and is currently enrolled or preparing to be enrolled in Medical School.


CRITERIA

Family Education Background
Preference is given to students who are first generation (neither parent has completed college).

Academic Profile
Undergraduate transcripts, internships, research, professional courses, and other academic information as well as work experience and proficiency in the intended area of study.

Completion of first degree at University of The Bahamas
UB offers strong academic programmes and as such, we prioritise scholarships for candidates who have completed their first degree at UB.

Institutional Reputation
The college or university that the candidate plans to attend is well ranked in national and international ranking reports (i.e. US News, Maclean’s).

Financial Need 
The resources available to the candidate to support his or her studies.

Financial Capacity
The candidate’s plan to secure additional funding beyond a Foundation scholarship.

Candidates Personal Qualities 
Personal essays are assessed along with the candidates overall character.

Intention to return to The Bahamas
All graduate study candidates must express how their chosen field of study will impact The Bahamas.


SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS

Students who complete stage 2 of the process are evaluated in greater detail on the nine criteria. The top 25% of applicants are forwarded to an independent screening committee for final decisions.

This independent screening committee – made up of community representatives, former Foundation Scholars and education professionals – reviews the applications and makes final recommendations. The committee may also decide to interview finalists prior to making its recommendations.d
